If you’ve tried different hairstyles to minimize an elevated hairline that draws attention to the size of your forehead, surgery can reduce its prominence. We offer forehead reduction surgery, also called hairline lowering surgery, near Raleigh, North Carolina, to shorten the forehead’s length and create better facial harmony. Women and men from Durham, Greensboro, and Cary choose North Raleigh Plastic Surgery for their procedures because they trust board-certified plastic surgeon Dr. Juan A. Ortiz.
What Is Forehead Reduction Surgery?
Forehead reduction surgery reduces the vertical width of the forehead up to 2.5 centimeters. Dr. Oritz makes incisions along the top of your forehead and hairline to remove excess skin. Once the skin is removed, Dr. Ortiz pulls down the top of the incision to meet the bottom of the incision, narrowing the forehead. He then sutures the incision, ensuring the scar is mostly concealed within your hairline as the hair regrows.
Dr. Ortiz performs the procedure, which often takes about 2 hours, while you’re under sedation. You’ll return home on the day of the surgery. Many patients can wash their hair the following day. Within just a few days, you can return to work and do normal activities. Patients return to our office after a week to have their sutures removed. Recovery is often very easy, but you must keep the incision clean as it heals.
Dr. Ortiz may combine forehead reduction surgery with a brow lift to create a more youthful appearance.
Is Forehead Reduction Right for You?
A proportional forehead is typically one in which the area between the hairline and eyebrows spans between 5 and 6.5 centimeters. People whose hairlines exceed this distance may find hairline lowering to be the best option to achieve a more balanced appearance. To be a good candidate for the procedure, you should be in good overall health and have skin that retains most of its elasticity.
