Best Way to Finance Plastic Surgery in Raleigh
You’ve made the decision to get a surgical procedure that you’ve wanted for a long time. After meeting for a consultation, you’re excited about the potential results of the surgery. But, you wonder how you are going to pay for it. If you are considering a plastic surgical procedure that is elective and not covered by insurance, you may be facing a significant expenditure. Let’s face it, most of us don’t have a “plastic surgery fund” set up! How can you pay for the procedure?
A lot of people don’t realize that there are financing options for surgery payment. At North Raleigh Plastic Surgery, we understand that paying for elective plastic surgery may be a stretch and we work with patients on ways to finance their procedures. Our board-certified plastic surgeon in Raleigh, Dr. Ortiz, offers a consultation to discuss your goals and recommend different options that are available. It’s important to you, so it is important for us as well!
In this article, we provide information on three of the most popular methods of financing plastic surgery.
Financing Options
We suggest doing preliminary research prior to your consultation with the plastic surgeon, even though you won’t have an estimated cost at that time. Researching your options gives you the information you may need in order to see what is available and have a preparative plan beforehand.
Your Budget
First, arrive at an overall budget for the procedure(s) you are considering. Research several providers in your location to see what the general costs are for the procedure. These will be estimates because you won’t get a specific cost proposed until you have a consultation. (This stands to reason because everyone is different and each person may have individual factors that contribute to the estimate.) Don’t select a surgeon solely based on price. At the same time, don’t overload your budget. Take the time to assess your options.
CareCredit
CareCredit is one of the most popular cards for plastic surgery. It is a credit card that is specially for healthcare costs not covered by insurance. This could be deductibles, procedures, and other costs that you are responsible for. You can use CareCredit to finance a wide variety of out-of-pocket healthcare and wellness services such as chiropractic, cosmetic, dentistry, dermatology, hearing, and more. Even veterinary costs can be applied to the card. Over 250,000 providers are enrolled with CareCredit in the United States so there are many options of available physicians.
The CareCredit card offers special financing options that you may not get with other credit cards. It offers shorter term financing of 6 or 12 months with no interest charged on purchases of $200 or more when you make the minimum monthly payments and pay the balance in full by the end of the promotional period.
You can also get longer-term healthcare financing for 24, 36, 48, or 60-month periods with reduced APR and fixed monthly payments required until paid in full. Refer to the CareCredit website for more detailed information regarding APRs that are in effect for specific timeframes.
Alphaeon
Another popular credit card for plastic surgery procedures is the Alphaeon Credit card. It can be used to pay for procedures, treatments, products, and services provided by dentists, dermatologists, and ophthalmologists as well as plastic surgeons. It offers credit lines up to $25,000 based on your credit.
Alphaeon offers a promotional plan for new card holders. When you spend $250 or more, you are offered several promotional financing plans. These promos charge no interest for 6 months on $250 or more when you make the minimum monthly payments and pay the balance in full by the end of the promotional period. For charges of $500.00 or more, you can get no interest for 12 months. Again, if the balance isn’t paid in full within the promotional period, you are subject to interest. Refer to the Alphaeon Credit website for more detailed information about current APR rates for different timeframes.
Personal Financing
Another common way people finance plastic surgery procedures is through personal financing. As you are looking at credit cards and financing options, shop around with different lenders. Compare APRs, repayment plans, discounts, and fees. Check your credit history to make sure there aren’t any errors before completing a loan application.
