While there isn’t much change in the popularity of certain procedures such as breast augmentation or rhinoplasty, we are also seeing an increase in interest in others. Dr. Ortiz, a board-certified plastic surgeon in Raleigh, is sharing what he sees as the cosmetic surgery trends for 2022.
Most Common Cosmetic Surgery Procedures
As we said above, some plastic surgery procedures maintain their popularity from year to year. The four procedures listed are the most common procedures we perform.
Rhinoplasty
Also called a “nose job,” rhinoplasty involves reshaping the nose to correct damage, improve breathing, and make it more attractive and proportionate with the rest of your features. Over 200,000 rhinoplasty procedures are performed each year on both men and women.
Breast Augmentation
Whether it’s to enhance the volume and size of the breasts, correct asymmetrical breasts, or reconstruct the breasts after a mastectomy, women from all backgrounds and walks of life choose to get breast implants. In fact, breast augmentation continues to be the most popular cosmetic surgery performed in the United States, with over 300,000 performed each year and it also has one of the highest satisfaction rates among patients.
Brazilian Butt Lift
While the Brazilian butt lift (BBL) was once a cosmetic surgery trend, its continued popularity over the past few years shows no signs of slowing down. A BBL is a fat-transfer procedure in which fat cells from one area of the body (belly, thighs, or hips) are removed via liposuction and injected into the buttocks. The result is a more shapely backside that enhances your physique.
Tummy Tuck
Also called abdominoplasty, a tummy tuck is performed to remove excess skin and tighten or repair stretched muscles and achieve a firmer, flatter abdomen. Often, women will choose this procedure after having children to get their pre-baby body back, though we’re seeing more patients choose this procedure after reaching a goal weight to remove the sagging skin and tissue and complete their weight loss journey.

In addition to the continued popularity of the procedures listed above, an increase in popularity and information requests show that these are growing or continued cosmetic surgery trends for 2022.
Eyelid Surgery
Eyelid surgery can be performed on either the upper or lower eyelids to remove excess fat and skin tissues that can cause bags or drooping as well as tighten the skin below the eye. Many people who choose this procedure are seeking a more “opened” eye or a more youthful appearance without a dramatic change in how they look.
Lipo 360
While liposuction targets a specific area to remove excess or stubborn fat deposits, Lipo 360 is performed in a 360-degree method around the entire waist, including the upper and lower abdomen, sides, and back to remove the “spare tire” of excess fat. The result is a smoother, trimmer waist line and a more attractive overall shape and silhouette.

Though many people talked about gaining weight (the “quarantine 15”) over the past 18 months or so, some used the opportunity to lose weight, whether through diet and exercise or gastric bypass surgery, to end the battle with obesity.
